New to Knitting?

In my experience, there are two main hurdles when getting started:

  1. Learning the motions. Knitting is not the easiest thing to do! As you learn how to make the basic knit and purl stitches, check in with yourself frequently: Could you relax your shoulders? Could you take some stress out of your hands? Offer yourself some grace.

  2. Transforming from boredom to delight. Especially when you have just the basic stitches in your toolbox, knitting can be quite boring. What if you made it an act of self care? Luxuriate in the finest fibers. Choose colors that draw you in. Light a candle and play beautiful music. Put on a cozy robe and your favorite slippers. Spoil yourself!

A few simple tips for you:

  • Sign up for Ravelry, where you can find plenty of patterns and inspiration: https://www.ravelry.com/invitations

  • Keep track of the dye lots of the yarn you buy. If you need to buy more, you'll want to get the same dye lot if possible.

  • Sign up for The Practice of Fibre e-newsletter: look for the Stay Connected option at the bottom right of https://www.thepracticeoffibre.com

  • Pick out a beginner's kit at the shop. I can help you dye the bag or yarn if you want to customize it!
